Stage 2 students from Years 3 and 4 embarked on an exciting and memorable excursion to the Irukandji Shark and Ray Encounters in Anna Bay as part of their Science unit, Under the Sea.
Upon arrival, students had the unique opportunity to paddle in the shallow lagoons, where they interacted directly with a variety of fascinating marine creatures. With great care and excitement, they fed and gently patted stingrays, manta rays, sharks and other fish, gaining a deeper appreciation for these incredible animals. Many students showed bravery as they dipped their hands into the water and engaged closely with the sea life.
Throughout the day, students also observed a wide range of marine species, including baby fish, turtles, stingrays and sharks. These close encounters brought their classroom learning to life, allowing them to see firsthand the diversity of ocean ecosystems.
Educational talks provided valuable insights into the life cycles, habitats and behaviours of these creatures, enriching students’ understanding of marine environments. The experience supported their scientific learning while fostering curiosity, respect and wonder for God’s incredible creation.
The excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect learning with real-world experiences, and it will no doubt remain a highlight of their year.
