Jayden did not stumble into his next step. Someone saw what was already there.
In Year 11 and Year 12, his physics teacher recommended a pathway that would bring together the things Jayden naturally gravitated toward: science, systems, programming, problem solving. When Jayden looked into mechatronic engineering at the University of Newcastle, it made sense quickly. It was a strong fit, and it has been “working out beautifully” so far.
But when Jayden talks about why he is thriving, he does not start with course content. He starts with preparation.
He describes the conversations that happened along the way, the kind that shape more than subject choices. Teachers and staff who took time. A mentor who helped him think clearly about what was coming, so the move from school to university did not feel like being thrown into the deep end. He entered uni ready. Not anxious, not drifting, but steady in his head and ready to act.
Jayden also speaks warmly about the MCS community. He remembers people who were genuinely good to be around, and he valued the chance to contribute, not just attend. He served as part of the leadership team, and he leaned into school life in ways that stretched him beyond the classroom.
One of those moments still stands out. In Year 11, Jayden took the stage in the Aladdin musical as Jafar. It was demanding, joyful, and unforgettable. For Jayden, it was one of those experiences that reminds you who you are becoming: confident, connected, willing to step forward.
Now he is at university, building a future that fits how he is wired. And when he looks back, he traces the line to MCS with gratitude. Not because everything was easy, but because he was known and supported by people who were willing to pour in time and care.
“Those mentors and that support and all those people around you that are just willing to pour in so much investment and time, it’s life-changing,” Jayden says. And his story is a quiet reminder of what we believe is true: when a young person is seen, guided, and strengthened in community, something steady and lasting begins to unfold.
